Join us December 14th from 9:30a-12:30p for an Advent Quiet Day!

We mark our liturgical year, the feasts and fasts of the church, with worship; yet sometimes what we need is not another thing to do, but the space to slow down or stop for a morning to get our minds into the season. This Advent we will offer space for a quiet day—similar to a retreat, but hosted at St. John’s and for a shorter amount of time. Our quiet day will be focused on exploring different methods of prayer. It will include worship, a simple lunch, and quiet! Our Advent Quiet Day will be Saturday, December 14 from 9:30a-12:30p, and we will begin in Magill Hall. We ask that you pre-register by clicking the button below.

Schedule:

  • 9:30a Morning Prayer

  • 10:00a- Address and quiet time

  • 11:00a- Address and quiet time

  • 12:00p- Holy Eucharist in Chapel

  • Light lunch to follow (not silent)

Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I bring? We will provide coffee, Books of Common Prayer/Hymnals, Bibles, and a paper “guide” to the quiet day. You are welcome to bring your own Bible, Prayerbook/hymnal, journal, or another book that you would like to read during the time.

What will we do while we are quiet? You are allowed to do what you need to do with this time. Some people choose to pray or meditate during a quiet day, others read, some others like to walk or journal. The quiet time is yours to do with as you need.

We will provide opening and closing worship, and two brief addresses to guide you all during the time, but you’ll have the majority of the time to pray and reflect in whatever way suits you. We will provide a written guide as well with ideas and resources about how to pray. Fr. Chris and Fr. Ben will also be available in their offices for prayer or pastoral conversations as well during the quiet day. The time will pass faster than you’d think!

Where will we meet? We will meet for Morning Prayer in Magill Hall. After that, you’ll have access to most of our campus to find a place to reflect. We’ll gather back in Magill at the midpoint, and conclude with Holy Eucharist in the Chapel at Noon. Lunch will be served after Holy Eucharist in Magill for us to share conversation and reflect on our mornings!

Other questions? Let us know or plan to attend and experience the quiet day for yourself!
